Rest in the Storm

Rest in the Storm

The thunder has been rumbling in my life for some time now. But over these two weeks, many things happened to brew an almost perfect storm for my inner systems to shut down.

I wondered what I should write about today with my limited mental capacity. The word “rest”  came to mind. I brushed it off because I didn’t feel restful, and I wanted to pick from the many things God had taught or shown me in the storm.

Rest. The word came again. Then the widely shared image came to mind, as the picture’s description aptly said, “The tiny dove rests quietly in her nest despite the crashing waterfall and the thundering storm around her.”

Then I thought about the often quoted verses in Matthew 8.

Jesus Calms the Storm
When Jesus got into the boat, His disciples followed Him. And behold, a violent storm developed on the sea, so that the boat was being covered by the waves; but Jesus Himself was asleep. And they came to Him and woke Him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing!”

He said to them, “Why are you afraid, you men of little faith?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it became perfectly calm. The men were amazed, and said, “What kind of a man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”

Matthew 8:23-27 (NASB)

Like a dove resting in the stormy surroundings, Jesus was asleep in the violent storm. As God spoke to me through these verses, He didn’t rebuke me or the storms. Instead, for my situation, He invited me to lie beside Him and sleep in the storm.

In my Abba Father’s embrace, I can rest in the storm.

Will you rest with Him in the storm too?
