The world got a bit more chaotic with the sudden US tariffs. Even before that, 2025 had been a busy year for the newsroom with earthquakes, wars, forest fires, high-profile deaths in Taiwan and Korea, entertainment scandals, and the exposing of hidden and perverted works – child abuse, child exploitation rings/websites, scam rings, money laundering, etc.
The Bible has prophesied the growing chaos and deplorable unrighteousness in the end days.
Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.
You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.
Matthew 24:4-8 (NIV)
Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
All these are the beginning of birth pains.
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.
People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited,
2 Timothy 3:3-5 (NIV)
lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
A scenario came to mind when the world was thrown into a frenzy because of the sudden US tariffs. My children like to build with their magnatic tiles. They would be proud of what they had made and showed it off to us. But when they wanted to build another model, they would not hesitate to break or destroy what they had done, most times with a quick swoop of hand and a loud crash that ensued. After everything fell into pieces, they would use those pieces to rebuild another model.
Sometimes things are thrown into chaos before a new world order or way of doing things is built up and comes to be. We need to trust that God knows what He is doing. God had allowed evil on Jesus, so that a greater victory and good can prevail. God knew this day would come. God had let it happen by allowing Trump to be elected into power, whether we like it or not. Coincidentally in my Lent devotional (I’m late in my reading) today, the message was so applicable to this week. I quote in short, “Pray for those in political leadership but to worship only one true God in a world that still divinizes successful politicians, businessmen, sportsmen and entertainers.”
The history of Israel’s kings is replete with both good and bad rulers, but God’s hand has always been and still is on His Chosen people. And we too ought to trust that God is with us, whether we are ruled by good or bad ruler, ultimately He is the one who rules over us. We prosper in His presence. We saw how US rose into power and prosper with this political motto: “In God We Trust”. Would a downfall of the country be surprising when they have been rejecting and removing God from the government and schools to live their own self-gratifying lifestyle that don’t honor the biblical values? Yet there is still the covering of God over Christians in the country, like Rahab who hid the two Israelite spies.
Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.
Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.
Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.
1 Peter 2:13-17
Yesterday, when this topic came to mind, I got a Rhema word from 1 Peter 2:16, “Live as people who are free“. If we live as servants of God, we will be free from the market forces and cares of the world. If we live as stewards to God, managing our finances and health with heavenly wisdom, we can live free. Our emotions would flow in His river of peace instead of going up and down with the stock market. If we do all things as unto the Lord, doing them with integrity even in secret, we can live free without fear of being caught and exposed.
I pray that you would not be swept away by the tsunami wave, but ride the wave with God.
