This is part of a 7-day commitment during Lent 2024.
I walked past a display featuring Easter bunnies and eggs at Singapore Changi Airport. It felt like a mockery in my face.
A spit in Jesus’s face.
“Then they spit in his face and struck him. And some slapped him…”
Matthew 26:67
Why is that in a country so strict on maintaining religious harmony, people (even the airport) have no qualms in displaying twisted adaptations of Christianity’s two important holidays?
Christmas has Santa, and Easter has the bunny.
Does commercialisation permit it to flourish? Or could it be because Christians are not voicing out, or worse, don’t think there’s anything wrong and join in the “fun”?
Deepavali/Diwali, Hari Raya, and Vesak Day are a few religious festivals celebrated in Singapore. Imagine if people who are not celebrating them watered down the meaning of these festivals. They make it their holiday festival of bunnies and the religious act is to treasure hunt for eggs. Would they be called out for cultural insensitivity?
Jesus was flogged and nailed to the cross on Good Friday.
He conquered death and was resurrected on Easter Sunday.
The bloody sacrifice and glorious resurrection deserve much more respect. The noise of Santa and Bunny is drowning out the good news of the birth, death and resurrection of Jesusto those who need to hear.
Shall we stand together to boycott Santa and Easter Bunny?
As a non-Christian, it’s out of respect for Christians.
As Christians, it’s out of respect for Jesus.
