A Prayer for Healing

A Prayer for Healing

I sat in the clinic’s waiting area, anxious and imagining the worst-case scenarios because of what I had read online. In less than a month, I went to another specialist for a problem of another body part and was nervous the night before, again coming up with worst-case scenarios based on what I had read online.

I think it is also because of my history. Because of some symptoms, I went to the A&E and was sent home with some gastric pills. So on the subsequent visit to the A&E shortly after, I assumed it was nothing serious. However, I was hospitalised in a public hospital on that very same day and had a traumatic experience for that 1 week. There was the isolation ward and forced separation from my very young child. I empathised with the elderly folks about why they refused to be hospitalised.

Anyway, that’s why I continually pray hard to be well and healthy. The pain and agony of having serious health problems run deep from the physical to the mental and emotional parts of us.

Recently, our family has been plagued with a lot of health issues, yet somewhere in my heart, I knew they would turn out to be false alarms, or not as serious as I thought – scare tactics of an intense spiritual battle. However, another part of me shushed myself and told me not to gloat and jinx it.

After all the years of preparation, and at this point in time when I felt the dam was bursting into something in terms of my calling, my health seemed to be wavering. I rather serve and walk in the promised land in health than sickness, although I know there’s His grace.

I felt prompted to write this to whoever is facing a health challenge today – whether you are waiting for the diagnosis, or you are hospitalised and getting treatment. You are not alone, someone is also facing the same thing as you. More importantly, God is with you. No one truly knows your pain and struggles, but God knows. He is close to you.

The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart,
And saves such as have a contrite spirit.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
But the Lord delivers him out of them all.
He guards all his bones;
Not one of them is broken.

Psalm 34:18-20 (NKJV)

A prayer of healing for you: “Dear Lord, I pray for Your presence to fill the room of whoever that’s reading this. I pray You will heal whatever needs to be healed, whether it’s a broken heart or a broken bone. I pray that You will give wisdom to the therapist or doctor in charge so that they can make the right decision. I pray that You will calm the nerves, renew the mind to see You as the Healer and give the faith to believe in healing. I pray for the comfort of the soul, as a mother comforts her child, may the wounded be comforted in Your embrace. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.”Â
